Properties:
- Prevents filling material from penetrating towards the soft tissues and fluid from the gingival sulcus from entering the cavity
- Ability to cut the wedges to fit snugly against the tooth, thus pressing the moulded piece along its entire length
- Show less tendency to slip out of interdental spaces
- Swells when soaked in saliva, thus pressing the matrice additionally against the tooth
- Better suited to metal matrices
